Happy 30th Anniversary to Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI)!
As I reflect on the profound impact GPI has had on my life, I am filled with immense gratitude and admiration. GPI was a fundamental pillar in my growing up, shaping me into a confident, self-actualized woman.
The organization equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and support I needed to navigate adolescence with confidence and power. I learned that I could be whoever I chose to be, free from the constraints of societal expectations and gender limitations.
GPI taught me invaluable lessons: that ‘no bottle of cola is free’ and that the power to say no is my inalienable right. She helped me discover my voice and amplified it, empowering me to speak up against gender-based violence, injustice, and oppression.
As a GPI girl, I gained the skills and support necessary to reduce my vulnerability to exploitation. As a GPI staff member, I had the privilege of paying it forward. And now, as an alumna, I am proud to remain connected to this remarkable institution.
Here’s to many more years of empowering girls and women! Vive la GPI!
