RADIO Project Orients Adolescent Girls on Digital Abuse Advocacy
The Right Advocacy and Development for Inclusive Opportunities (RADIO) project, implemented by Girls Voices Initiative in collaboration with Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI) Benin, has held an orientation meeting for adolescent girls to introduce them to radio-based advocacy on digital abuse and violence.
The orientation, which took place on 13 December 2025, was conducted via Zoom at the GPI Conference Room and brought together 10 adolescent girls from GPI. The session was designed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of the RADIO project and to spark their interest in advocacy through radio programming.
Speaking during the meeting, Carolyn Seaman presented an overview of the RADIO project, explaining that adolescent girls would be actively engaged as anchors and contributors to radio programmes. According to her, the initiative plans to engage 10 girls each from 12 states across Nigeria, creating a strong network of young voices using media to drive social change.
She noted that the radio programmes would focus on enlightening the public on digital abuse and violence, while also empowering girls with the confidence, skills, and platform to speak out on issues affecting them in digital spaces.
Participants were encouraged to see the project not only as a learning opportunity but also as a chance to influence public discourse, challenge harmful practices, and promote safer digital environments for adolescents, especially girls.
