As part of its ongoing commitment to reducing the vulnerability of young women and girls to sex trafficking, Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI) organized its first Life and Leadership Skills Training and Business Coaching Session on April 11, 2025, at the GPI Hall in Benin City, Edo State.
The event, held under the project titled “Using Communication to Reduce the Vulnerability of Young Women and Girls to Sex Trafficking in Edo State,” brought together young women from different communities, equipping them with life skills, financial literacy, entrepreneurial knowledge, and business planning tools. Participants left the session feeling more confident, informed, and ready to grow sustainable ventures in their localities.
“It was very interesting and informative,” said Osakai Ojo, a participant from Ugbighoko community who runs a catering business. “The training increased my confidence in running my business and gave me a solid strategy for planning and promoting it. I’m grateful to GPI—may God continue to bless this work and bring people to support them.”
The training focused on several key objectives:
From Iyanomo community, Abigail Ita expressed her excitement:
“Today’s program was fantastic. I learned so much about entrepreneurship and mentorship—how to plan, manage, and save in my business. I’m so happy. What I saw today is great. Thank you for what you’re doing.”
The impact extended to participants like Progress from Ekiadolor community, who joined the session a bit late but was deeply inspired:
“Even though I came in late, I still learned a lot about business—how to operate, save, and plan. I really appreciate what GPI is doing. More grace to do more and more!”
Another participant, Naomi from Useh community, added:
“It was quite enjoyable and enlightening. I gained valuable insights into business decision-making, planning, and growth strategies. It’s going to help me tackle my financial challenges and structure my business better. I want to say a very big thank you to Girls’ Power Initiative. May God continue to bless them.”
Through initiatives like these, GPI is building informed, confident, and economically independent young women who are less vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking. By empowering young entrepreneurs across communities, GPI continues to drive its mission of creating safe, secure, and empowered futures for girls and women across Edo State.
