The BlinN cooperation had carried out training of trainers in Edo south, central and north senatorial districts. The participants who were over 50 in each of the trainings were trained on:
Trafficking , smuggling, and migration by IRRRAG
Evils of women trafficking by COSUDOW
Building of self esteem to enable girls say no to human trafficking by GPI.
Government response to human trafficking by NAPTIP.
Business opportunities as alternatives to prostitution by LAPO.
As a way of spreading the information gained during the TOTs, the trained participants along with the organisations team carried out market campaigns in the three senatorial districts of Edo state where the TOTs took place and also distributed IEC materials produced for the project.
An evaluation of the of the project was carried out to ascertain the impact of the campaigns on the people and ascertain their attitudinal change on trafficking. They confirmed to the BlinN team on how they have been educating people on the ills of trafficking. The IEC materials were seen pasted on their stalls which was an indication of the success of the pilot project. The IEC materials produced were stickers, posters and handbills. Some of the massages on the IEC materials were--; “you could die prematurely from being trafficked, Avoid it.” “Ashewo Even for Abroad Na bad market ,make we commot hand”
The insights gained from the project were women in both Edo central and Edo north senatorial districts are willing to stop trafficking unlike their counterparts in Edo south senatorial district who still saw trafficking as a means to an end and so they are not willing to put a stop to it. It also showed parents are the ones who look for sponsors and force their daughters against their will to be trafficked.
The new challenges that emerged from the project is to work on the girls by teaching them life management skills to enable them say no to trafficking through the implementation of sexuality education curriculum in schools.
