Girls power initiative /Ministry of Education Delta State train teachers for the implementation of family life and Hiv/Aids Education in Delta State

GPI in collaboration with the ministry of Education Delta State organized a training program for teachers in Delta state. the training was held from the 15th of April 2008 to 2nd of may 2008. The goal of the workshop was to train social studies teachers and integrated science teacher on the FLHE component of their curriculum and to make the curriculum available to social studies and integrated sciences teachers in Delta state. The training was held in three centres namely Asaba centre, Ugheli centre and Warri centre. Participants were drawn from the 25 local government area of Delta State.
The objectives of the training was
To mainstream FLHE in 2 career subjects in such a way that it flows along with the subjects.
To impact the desired skills to implement FLHE in schools
To make the curriculum available to teachers.
. The welcome address was given by Grace Osakue, who introduced GPI as an organization which began its operation since 1993 with her and colleague Bene Madunagu and in her speech she said ”GPI started first in Calabar and now we have branches in Uyo, Edo and Delta states. Over the years we discovered that GPI strategy of reaching the adolescent girl child was successful because it took into consideration relevant stakeholders in the lives of the adolescent girl. This training is to ensure that at least two teachers(from social studies and integrated science) from each school in the 25 local government areas in Delta State are trained and there will be monitoring and evaluation to ensure that this information get to the students.”
